Nanaimo Bars

This is my family recipe. The custard is very thick and the chocolate layer on top is much more dense and crackly(if that can be a word).

Base  

2 Squares semi sweet chocolate melted

1/2 Butter

2 Tbsp white sugar  

1 Tsp vanilla  

1 Egg

2 Cups chocolate wafer crumbs  

1 Cup unsweetened coconut shredded

1/2 Cup chopped walnuts  

Mix together chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg. Once smooth add wafer crumbs, coconut, and walnuts until combined. Press into greased 8X8 pan and refrigerate 30 min. 

Filling

2 Tbsp custard powder

3 Tbsp milk  

1/4 Cup butter

2 Cups icing sugar (add more if it seems to thin for your liking)

Mix until combined and creamy, pour over base and set in refrigerator for 30 min. 

Chocolate Glaze

6 Squares semi sweet chocolate  

3 Tbsp butter 

Melt in a double boiler and pour over filling. Chill in refrigerator for 30 min before slicing.
