The second grouping of movies I jumped into this month was witches. Some of these turned out to be just curses, or occult rituals. Honestly this is not a stellar group but it’s what I got. I only had Netflix to check out for a lot of my movie viewing time.
The Witch (2015)
Synopsis - A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.
My Thoughts - Beautifully put together film, dark, moody, great acting. If your expecting a lot of gore and scares.. this ain’t it. What it is is a great psychological tremoil of a isolated family in the 1600’s. Much more adult and dramatic. A lot of nods to classic atmospheric horror films of the past and just a really lovely film.
Blair Witch (2016)
Synopsis - After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his vanished sister Heather, James and a group of friends head to the forest believed to be inhabited by the Blair Witch.
My Thoughts - Basically a reboot of all the same things from the first films...really a let down. Need to see something different.
Synopsis - A young college professor and his pregnant wife unwittingly release a malevolent entity with murderous intentions.
My Thoughts - Ok not a witch move but I was having a hard time finding anything witchy in Netflix. So I broadened my horizons to include curses.
This was another film that had great atmosphere, but a storyline like Swiss cheese. Some of the effects where good but nothing that is recommendable. Another been there done that film, with minimal stand out quality.
The Hereics (2017)
Synopsis - After she's kidnapped, a young woman begins to undergo a strange transformation.
My Thoughts - I could write something here, but only if I actually watched it. I ended up turning it off after 50 mins. Just couldn’t get into the feel of it.
Not a worthy lot to spend my free time with, but you never know until you watch them.
